CRGR | El Salvador | November 7th, 2018.- On November 6th, 2018, the Regional Agreement for Risk Management held in the city of San Salvador in the Republic of El Salvador, a special award ceremony of the audiovisual contest launched last month September at the regional level.
After the compilation of audiovisual pieces presented in the Regional Audiovisual Contest «Central America 20 years after Mitch» received from different countries of the Central American region, the CRGR announced the result of the contest after a rigorous analysis, based on the criteria established by The Regional Jury, which ruled as winner of the documentary «Levantados de las aguas» by the Salvadoran production company Revomedia7 and author David Sánchez.
The jury that qualified the edition of this contest, was composed of: Kathya Villacorta TV producer / independent filmmaker, Edgardo Andrés Castro Professor of the University of El Salvador, Ferran Caum Professor and producer of the Communications and Culture Department of the José Simeón Cañas University, Ingrid Hausinger representative of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Irma Rebeca Flanco, Odalis Flores and Yessenia Márquez communicators in risk management of the CRGR, who supported the development of the bases, the criteria as in the analysis of each of the audiovisual pieces and the selection of the best documentary.
«In revomedia7 we like to tell stories and when we heard about this contest we saw the opportunity to tell a wonderful story, about how a people that was hit by the lack of resilience and a natural phenomenon that led to disaster in a town that was not prepared for this catastrophe it arose from the sinking of the waters and that now it is prepared in the integral management of the risk «said David Sánchez, director of the Revomedia7 production company.
He also mentioned that «Levantados de las aguas» is not only a reminder of what can not happen again but a window to hope. «We hope that those who see it can feel that they are more secure and encouraged to prepare themselves in a similar situation,» Sánchez said.
The award ceremony was held in a special ceremony within the framework of the Central America event 20 years after Hurricane Mitch in the presence of Salvadoran government entities, cooperation agencies, civil society organizations, the academy and part of the qualifying jury. . The award was given to the winner by Magdalena Cortez, Executive Secretary of the CRGR on behalf of the network.
Zaira Catota, regional communications officer of the CRGR, mentioned that both the CRGR and the four National Risk Management Tables in Central America continue to work, 20 years after Mitch, to strengthen the practice of disaster risk reduction in Central America and expand participation. of the vulnerable population in decision-making and as actors in the creation of their own solutions.
This initiative was aimed at journalists and media communicators, freelancers, filmmakers, producers of independent audiovisuals (local, national and regional) and was carried out with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation and Peace and Development.
