Women at the Central American level are actively involved in solving the various problems of their societies. But its level of incidence varies according to its development at community, municipal and national levels. This is influenced, of course, by having eminently patriarchal contexts and societies, which give the vision of the world, culture, thought and masculine practice.
In risk management, the women of the Central American communities are the leaders in the preparation and response to disasters, in the reduction of vulnerabilities and in community planning and organization.
At the municipal level, especially in the Committees or Local Committees of Risks or Civil Protection, the level of participation decreases, mainly because there is already greater power of decision in the members: the municipal or territorial authorities are present; and male power has a higher expression.
When it is at a national and regional level, organized or institutional activities and expressions of decision-making power are mostly concentrated in the hands of men.
However, the advancement of women’s participation and decision-making power in risk management is evident. The Regional Agreement for Risk Management (CRGR) supports and is convinced that equity and equality of genders is a prerequisite for resolving or reducing risks and disasters, therefore in practice and with its recently approved Policy. of Gender in Risk Management, promotes the intervention in equity of conditions of women and men.
Today, March 1, 2018, the CRGR together with the National Risk Management Tables of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua launch the regional campaign «In Risk Management … We Advance with Equity» in the framework of International Women’s Day
With this campaign, the CRGR, especially the women that integrate it in its different forms of expression and different territorial levels of participation in the Central American region, seek to raise awareness and act even more with the vision that together and together they can build greater capacities, improve their impact in societies and achieve a more sustainable and equitable world.
